March 31, 2006 Hey y'all, so it has been a while since I have had anything to say here. I do apologize for the long absence, but I wanted to make sure I had something on the artistically inclined side first. If you feel the need to update yourselves on my personal life, you are {as always} welcome to check out my mommy blog. As of late I have been reading Utopia Parkway the Life and Work of Joseph Cornell. While I do find Cornell's work both inspiring, and compelling, another artist mention in the book actually caught my eye. Salvador Dali is that artist. As I am not completely educated in Art History, I did not know that he [Dali] was prone to jealous rages. Apparently during an early screening of Cornell's first film "Rose Hobart" Dali actually slammed the projector to the ground, while screaming 'salud' to Cornell. Dali's wife had to reign him in. Dali later told the gallery owner [Julien Levy] that he too had come up with a similar idea for a film, only he had wanted to execute and pay someone else to create it. Cornell did so with the most basic of skill. While I do find the author, Deborah Solomon, a pompous ass at times, she does regale me with these tidbits of gold. I am always falling under the influence of my current studies. I am in the mood to create ready-made collages much as Cornell did. However I am fascinated by the ego of Dali. I want to know more of his jealous rages. It could be the influence of living with Chris, who is, in my opinion the greatest painter of our time. I see a bit of Dali in him, the ego, the rage, sometimes the jealousy. For instance Basquiat's line of shoes. Sure he's dead, but c-money really did want to be the first artist with his own line of shoes. I am rambling, so sorry. To the point, I will research Dali's rages further as they fascinate me. I am most assuredly going to finish the Cornell Biography. I also hope to have some art stem from all of this, so stay tuned. Thanks for coming around, see ya soon! | ||||
